 Music Moves Our Soul

We all know that music is a powerful part of bringing people together.  We also know that music is intertwined with our memories of the past.  When picking an entertainment company for your wedding, social or corporate event it is important to pick a company that understands the importance of the music being played.  The problem today is that many DJs and bands think that as long as they are just playing music, they are doing their job.  Also, with Ipods and music readily available for download off the internet, now everyone thinks that they can be a DJ.  Unfortunately, these companies are not conscious of the overall affect their music will have on your guests.  There are very few companies that specialize in the art of providing music that is able to uplift and inspire your guests to be fully self-expressed.

 How To Be Prepared on Your Wedding Day Part 1

Your  wedding day can be one of, if not the most memorable day of your life.  Unfortunately, for many brides and grooms the day can be a blur when it is all said and done.  My hope is that since you are reading this article your desire is to stay in the moment on your wedding day and to enjoy it thoroughly.  In my opinion, there is no other day in your life where you will be surrounded by so many people that love and care about you.

I have coached thousands of brides and grooms on how to stay in the moment on their wedding day.  In addition to coaching, I also was a groom once and made it my own personal mission to thoroughly enjoy my big day.  After 20 years of coaching couples and from my own wedding experience I have compiled a list to help couples stay present through their entire wedding day.
This list of items may seem simple but just remember this one thing…they are simple and powerful but OFTEN overlooked.

The best news of all is that making an intention to stay in the moment is 99% of the work.  Once you and your fiancé have decided that staying in the moment is important to you both, it is an easy thing to implement and accomplish.

1. Prepare, prepare, prepare.  It may seem counter intuitive to prepare to be in the moment.  But the truth is that being prepared helps you to free yourself of worry on your wedding day—and that is the whole point.  So the best way to make sure the day is not a blur is to have the important things taken care of beforehand.
2. Eat a very healthy breakfast.  If your wedding is later in the day make sure you eat small meals all day.  Being famished and light headed during your wedding will definitely take away from even the most meaningful moments.
3. Prepare and have with you an emergency kit that includes a sewing kit, safety pins, bottled water, sports bars/snacks, breath mints and so on.
4. Make sure you have plenty of support for the day of your wedding.  If you have a wedding coordinator, rely on her heavily so that you can enjoy your day.    If you have a friend or your mother assisting you, make sure they have an itinerary so they know what the schedule is and how they can assist you.  Don’t be afraid to ask for lots of help for this day.  Your goal should be to enjoy the day and let your helpers do the work.  Our entertainment company has a motto that we share with all of our clients, “Be a guest at your own event?”  Before the wedding we have an extensive planning meeting to make sure we accomplish our motto.  We go way beyond the general questions that 99% of the other companies would normally ask to coordinate your event.  Other companies just scratch the surface, while we create a lifetime of meaningful memories.  We do so by always seeking to understand what is most important about our couples…which naturally translates into creating moments during their wedding that they will remember a lifetime.
5. Leave plenty of time to get to the ceremony.  Running late is one of the surest ways to add stress to your day.  Don’t defeat your intentions to stay in the moment.  Leave for your wedding in plenty of time.

 

 

 

 How To Be Prepared on Your Wedding Day Part 2

Your wedding day can be one of, if not the most memorable day of your life.  Unfortunately, for many brides and grooms the day can be a blur when it is all said and done.  My hope is that since you are reading this article your desire is to stay in the moment on your wedding day and to enjoy it thoroughly.

Before my own wedding I shared with my wife that “I had seen too many couples that didn’t enjoy their wedding to the fullest and seemed distracted and not present to the amazing love that was being showered on them from all their family and friends”.  For myself, I did not want to miss a single moment of my own wedding.  I set to making a plan with my wife so that we could have a day filled with meaningful moments that we would remember.  My wife was on board immediately.

This list of items may seem simple but just remember this one thing…they are simple and powerful but often overlooked.

6. The day of, prepare yourself to be in the moment by clearing your head with an activity that sooths you. Try a brisk walk or jog as the sun comes up. Meditate, do yoga or say a prayer. Take a long shower or bubble bath.  Take time to reflect on today’s joyful rite-of-passage.
7. Make a plan with your fiancé to create moments that will help both of you to be present and to feel the joy of the day.  Couples have found there is nothing that will bring you into the moment faster than looking into each others eyes.  My wife and I had a lot of predetermined times that we would look into each others eyes during the ceremony and reception as a signal to enjoy this day and stay present.  A lot of communication can be given through your eyes of just how much you love each other.
8. In between activities, take a moment to take some deep breaths.  Breath is a great way to get you aware of the moment and has been used for centuries as a meditation.  You don’t have to be an experienced meditator to take some deep breaths and calm yourself into being more aware.
9. Expect the unexpected and enjoy the fact that the unexpected is always going to happen when you LEAST EXPECT IT. Yes, things may go “wrong”, but if you face the day with a sense of humor and a positive attitude, you can pull it off without a catastrophe.  Keep everything in perspective. In all likelihood, some details are not going to go exactly as planned, but so what? You’re getting married and will be surrounded by people who want to share your happy moments. My wife and I had many things that “went wrong” and each time we both looked at each other and laughed.  It’s these moments that become some of the funniest stories that you will tell to your kids later in life.  It is actually these things that go wrong that can bring you back to the moment.  At our wedding my wife’s father got his foot wrapped into her veil as he stepped behind her after giving her to me, as he went to untangle his foot he jerked her head back. As her head flew back unexpectedly she gasped pretty loud. At first I thought she was going to land flat on her back but when she didn’t fall we laughed and so did all the guests.  As a matter of fact, we didn’t stop laughing for a good 5 minutes.  Yes it was a little tough for the minister to continue with our laughter but from that moment on all of the stress and anxiety was gone. Too this day it is a fond memory.
10. This brings me to my last item on the list.  Laugh!  It’s an exciting and anxiety-filled time that can be simmered down with a good dose of laughter. There’s a reason why ‘laughter therapy’ works for stress.  If there is one language that is universal, it is laughter.  It brings people together.  So smile and laugh because your guests will enjoy themselves more!
