Shayna Phillips and Joe Stone’s wedding at The Vineyards was a beautiful and a romping good time.  There was a very special highlight during their wedding reception that brought Shanya to tears unexpectedly….we were informed in our planning session that it was highly doubtful that Shayna’s father would be up for giving a toast because he was terrified.  Although Shayna’s father spent hours beforehand putting together a toast, on the day of the wedding I was told by Shayna’s mother that he would definitely not be giving the toast.  

 At the beginning of the reception I bumped into Shayna’s father at the sink in the men’s restroom…of all places.  He shared that he had emailed top speaking coaches to get coaching on how to be able to handle his fright.  He even shared with me the large folder filled with notes for his toast.  But unfortunately none of their advice was working when I was speaking with him because he was determined that he was not going to give a toast.  I knew he didn’t want to disappoint his daughter.  I also knew how meaningful it would be for Shayna if her father did a toast….and since we had bumped into each other, I decided to take the opportunity to see if he was interested in some “on the spot coaching”.  Besides emceeing events I also am a professional business consultant, which often requires coaching individuals on being able to get past their fears. The key to success: get out of your mind and get into your heart.

Thirty minutes later Shayna’s father gave his toast—to the utter surprise of Shayna and her family.  Shayna’s father gave one the THE BEST AND MOST MEMORABLE toasts we have ever heard – wow! The power of coming from the heart! There was NOT a dry eye in the room and that includes us!  It was a moment that will live on in our memory and all those present at Shayna and Joe’s wedding.
